While some people have a bowel movement three times a day, others have one three times a week. It’s important to know your regular schedule and notice if that schedule changes for longer than a week.  Expansion: The frequency of bowel movements varies significantly among individuals. According to the American Gastroenterological Association, normal bowel movement frequency ranges from three times a day to three times a week. What’s crucial is consistency. A sudden change in bowel habits, lasting longer than a week, could indicate an underlying issue and should be discussed with a healthcare provider. Rarely, excessive swallowing of gum, especially in combination with constipation, can lead to intestinal blockage, particularly in children (NIH).  Myth #3: Is More Fiber in My Diet Better for My Health?  Answer: Yes! Studies suggest that more fiber really is better for your health. Fiber is extremely beneficial for the bacteria in your gut, helping protect you from infections and other diseases. It also aids in bowel movement.  Expansion: Dietary fiber is essential for maintaining a healthy digestive system. The American Heart Association recommends a daily fiber intake of 25 to 30 grams from food, not supplements. “Fiber helps regulate the body’s use of sugars, helping to keep hunger and blood sugar in check,” notes the American Heart Association (AHA).
